“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” – Scott Adams

BIOGRAPHY

Femi Ford is a Printmaker and Surface Pattern Designer living in the country side of New York.  She incorporates her original relief linocuts and drawings into designs for textiles, home interiors, stationary and wall art.

I take most of my inspiration from nature. Sometimes I choose to illustrate specific things I see and other times I’ll fall in love with an abstract pattern I’ve created.  Most of my work can be described as an urban bohemian style.  I enjoy working with linocuts because of the handmade, grainy look that reminds me there is a mind and body and imperfection in the work.

I fell in love with Printmaking in college…I could not resist the excitement of pulling prints…the spontaneity and unpredictability felt like a form of divination.  I immersed myself in silkscreen, intaglio, monoprints, relief prints and letterpress.  After graduation, fine art took a back seat while my career moved me from Manhattan to Brooklyn managing graphic design and website projects. In 2001, the Trade Center attacks woke me up and I began to question whether I was on the right path.  So I took up painting, exhibited my artwork locally, and realized my passion still lay in the Fine Arts.  After several years, I married my best friend, had two children, and found myself needing a little more room than our beautiful studio apartment could offer.  And so we moved to a house in the country with room for my art supplies and a yard for the kids to run.  This is when I began to explore my love for textile and pattern design. When not making art, you can find me practicing yoga, gardening, trying new vegan recipes, volunteering or just relaxing with my family.
